In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some of the most common mistakes that first-time golf cart owners make with their purchase, usage or other areas. Some of these are understandable for those who haven’t been in this world in the past, but there are also some simple ways to avoid making these kinds of errors during golf cart shopping or operations.

At Cricket Carts Direct, we provide clients with a huge range of quality golf cart models, golf cart accessories and more — and we’re also here to help with various areas of expertise and tips for any of our clients. Here are a few of the other common mistakes we’re familiar with from customers in this industry, plus how to steer clear of them.

Tire Maintenance Issues

If you neglect to maintain your golf cart’s tires, they will eventually become bald and dangerous to operate on. It’s important to keep an eye on the tread depth and air pressure of all four tires, as well as rotate them regularly.

You may also want to invest in a set of tire covers to protect them from sun damage and other elements when your cart is not in use.

Not Knowing Your Local Golf Cart Laws

Before you start driving your golf cart around town, make sure you are familiar with the local laws and regulations regarding their operation. You will likely need to register your golf cart with the DMV and obtain insurance coverage, as well as stay within any designated areas for golf cart usage.

In addition, there are often regulations for things like speed, hours of operation and the number of people allowed to ride in the cart at one time. By familiarizing yourself with these laws, you can avoid getting a ticket or being involved in an accident.

Letting Irresponsible or Impaired Friends Drive

As the owner of any golf cart, you’re responsible for who drives it and how they operate it. If you let someone who is intoxicated or inexperienced drive your cart, you could be held liable if they cause an accident.

The same goes for anyone who is not licensed to drive a motor vehicle — in most states, this includes golf carts. Only allow responsible drivers who are familiar with the laws and your golf cart to operate it.

Not Storing Your Golf Cart Properly

When you’re not using your golf cart, it’s important to store it in a safe and secure place. This will help protect it from theft, vandalism or weather damage.

If possible, keep your golf cart in a garage or shed when it’s not in use. If you don’t have access to these, invest in a quality cover to protect it from the elements.
